George Banks (David Tomlinson)
George Banks (David Tomlinson)
Ink on paper, 11 x 8.5", 2015David Tomlinson plays the character George Banks in the 1964 Disney film Mary Poppins. It is certainly one of the greatest musicals of all time. I've loved the movie my whole life, and Tomlinson's face just amazes me. I could never really comprehend it. So I felt compelled to pause the film for a reference photo and make this study. He's a great actor. See also a sort of companion film, Bedknobs and Broomsticks (1971). The Sherman brothers wrote the music for both films, and both contain scenes combining live action and animation, but Bedknobs focuses on a witch (Angela Lansbury) fighting Nazis.
See my Tom Cruise drawing for another face I needed to study to figure out.
