Four Day Rain

Suddenly, along the boulevards of Kenwood, all the sugar maples dropped carpets of chartreuse sperm with the rain, striping the sidewalks into giant snakes. Against the wet green of all the yards, flower bushes of fluorescent lavender erupted with their own light, despite the grey wash over everything else. Tree blossoms of pink, white, and fuschia against a house and sky of matching purple-grey screamed out to be embroidered. We stuck our noses and inhaled between the petals. We tasted the cool rain drip from them onto our lips.
